The mess created by the General just got messier on Tuesday as an emotionally charged Defence Minister AK Antony - known for his unblemished record - on Tuesday told the Parliament that even as General VK Singh told him about the bribery episode in 2010, the Army Chief had refused to pursue the matter any further. While nobody is questioning the allegations made by the General, his delayed response in every scenario (be it on his age or in this bribery episode) leaves lot for wanting. Also it is beyond the premises of intelligent guesses as to what stopped General Singh from calling the Military Police, registering a complaint against the lobbyist and get him arrested.
During happier times
Does it take two years for the head of the army to respond to the bribery offer?
Adding twist to the tale, Lt Gen (retd) Tejinder Singh, the former head of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) has filed a defamation suit naming the Army Chief, Vice Chief, Director General Military Intelligence (DGMI) among others.
Moreover, the CBI is awaiting written complaint from the Army Chief about the episode. The Chief came back from South Western Army Command today evening and headed to Srinagar and will only be back to the Capital day after tomorrow.
