Olympian Army Boxer receives Vishisht Seva Medal

In a well deserving honour, Naib Subedar Kaishram Devendro Singh was awarded Vishisht Seva Medal. Here is the statement issued by the Kolkata PRO-

"At 23, Naib Subedar Laishram Devendro Singh was the youngest and the only Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) among the eight army personnel who received the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) for 'distinguished service of a high order' at the Investiture Ceremony held at Fort William on Saturday.

With a single brass star shining on his shoulder-flap denoting his recently promoted status as a JCO, and with a VSM pinned above his left breast pocket, Devendro looked every bit the star sportsman-soldier a nation would be proud to honour.

Soft-spoken and otherwise reticent in demeanour, his explosive fighting skills in the boxing ring is delightful to watch. Devendro, it may be recalled, had lost a hard-fought quarter final bout in the light-flyweight category against Irish boxer Paddy Barnes, in the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Inspired by his former national boxing champion sister, Sushila Devi, to take to the sport, Devendro is currently training hard at SAI and is determined to bring home an Olympic Medal in 2016."
