Pak builds around 900 new bunkers along LoC

Pakistan’s military build-up along the Line of Control with India is on the rise and as per intelligence inputs from the region; its army has constructed around 900 new bunkers on the Indo-Pak border despite protest being lodged by the Indian Army from time to time.

The information was revealed by Defence Minister AK Antony in a written reply to Rajya Sabha.
“Government is aware through intelligence inputs that Pakistan has constructed and carried our repairs of bunkers, morchas and towers between 2004 and 2011,” Antony said.

As per the data collected by the Indian sleuths, in the last seven years Pakistan has constructed 886 new bunkers, 261 Morchas, 398 watch towers and 143 Border Out Posts (BOPs).

“Protests have been lodged with Pakistan Rangers and Flag Meetings of Field Commanders are held in all the cases. The matter is also taken up by BSF (Border Security Force) with Pakistan Rangers during scheduled meetings at various levels,” Antony informed the Parliament.

However, with all the protests with the Pakistan military establishment failing to yield results, India has also taken counter measures to keep a check against any foul play in the region.

“Adequate troops are suitably supplemented by appropriate surveillance and technical intelligence resources to ensure the sanctity of the borders,” Antony added.

Pakistan military has been involved in close to 50 ceasefire violations in the year 2011 alone. And as per cumulative figure the 119 ceasefire violations were reported between 2009-11 along the Indo-Pak border in Jammu and Kashmir. Nine security personnel were killed and around 52 injured in various firing incidents reported in 2008-11 along the international border. Besides, two civilian porters were killed in cross Line of Control firing, he said.
